Photos: Brazilian website publishes photos of Black Stars players collecting bundles of money as appearance fee

rp_ghana-dance-get_2950868c.jpgThe Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has personally intervened to have the Black Stars World Cup appearance fees paid by Wednesday afternoon. President Mahama waded into the matter after agitation from the Black Stars players over their appearance fees for the World Cup which has not been paid since the start of the competition.

President Mahama personally spoke to the players to assure them that the money will be paid by Wednesday afternoon which has brought some assurance to the Black Stars. Government is pre-financing the payment of the Black Stars appearance fees which will be reimbursed when FIFA’s prize-money for Ghana’s participation in the World Cup is paid after the tournament in Brazil. We wish to assure the general public following President Mahama’s intervention the Black Stars are in high spirits ahead of Thursday’s match last Group G match against Portugal.

Meanwhile, the website of the Brazilian TV channel “Globo” has published photos and a video of the $3m being delivered to the #Ghana players in Brasilia. They broadcast footage of the money being transported in a huge convoy of police cars. The appearance money was owed to the players and promised to them before the #WorldCup.
Earlier in the week, there were rumours the Black Stars could boycott training ahead of the game if their demand for payment was not met.
As unrest grew, Ghana President John Dramani Mahama personally assured the players that they would receive their money.
The Ghana coach claims the money had to be delivered in cash because many of the players do not have bank accounts based in Ghana.
