Usually this is done when these musicians achieve success and believe they better off on their own but this act is also the reason why Ghanaian musicians fade out early, especially when they feel like they can do things on their own better and decide to ditch the team that brought them up.
Our top artiste right now, Sarkodie who started from Duncwills Entertainment has followed suite (as if we didn’t see that coming). He currently has his own label and it’s called “SarkCess” music. Do you think this is a wise decision? Maybe we are wrong and “SarkCess Music” will be affiliated with Duncwills Entertainment.
But our question is why can’t Ghanaian musicians just sign to a label and make sure things are done properly for them? Why can’t they be like Eminem, Kanye West and co. who have been with one label, Interscope and Def Jam respectively since the inception of their careers. To me that is the reason why nobody want to invest in any musician in Ghana anymore as they (investors) feel disappointed and let down after the artistes soar.
Also why should it always be about their name? Why can’t Ghanaian musicians learn from the best. What the hell is “Wongye Entertertainment”, “Kankpe Records”, “Twipop Records”, “Wobeda Ntem Records” and all these rubbish names Ghanaian artistes come up with as their label names (SarkCess is not bad though but could be better). The funny part is, most of these musicians have little to no clue what they are doing (We hope Sarkodie is). Below is what he posted on his instagram.
